How we count

For each broker we add up what one MTF trade costs you, from buying to selling:

  • Interest on the money the broker lends you, for the days you hold.
  • Brokerage on the buy and on the sell.
  • Pledge and unpledge charges. MTF shares are pledged to the broker while you hold them.
  • The DP charge your depository takes when you sell.
  • GST on brokerage, pledge and DP, and any plan fee the rate needs.

We assume the broker funds 75% of what you buy, so borrowing ₹1,00,000 means buying shares worth about ₹1,33,333. Real funding depends on the stock.

We leave out STT, stamp duty and exchange fees. They are the same at every broker. We also leave out limited-time offers, and say so on the broker’s row.

“From” means the total is the lowest it can be: the broker doesn’t publish a charge, or calls its rate a “starting” rate.
